Privacy Policy
College Superheroes · Effective October 21, 2026
College Superheroes is a Howard University student mentoring program that pairs college volunteers with elementary school students. This policy explains what information the College SuperHEROs app (iPhone, Android and huserve-dev.web.app) collects, how it's used, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- Your sign-in details: your name, email address and an account ID from Google or Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and hide your email, we only see Apple's private relay address.
- Your profile: personal email, major, school year, birthday and the session times that work for you.
- Program activity: the sessions you sign up for, check-ins and volunteer hours, cancellations and missed sessions, training answers and progress, certification, and session ideas you suggest.
- Messages you send in the program chat and session chats, shown with your name.
- Safety records: when you agreed to the Terms of use, the people you've blocked, and any chat messages you report (with a copy of the message and your reason).
- Mentee information: program administrators enter details about the children in the program (first name and last initial, grade, and notes that help match them with a mentor). Children don't use the app or have accounts. Only administrators can see these records; a mentor sees the name of the child they're matched with.
We don't collect your location, contacts or photos, and the app has no ads, analytics or tracking. Notification reminders are shown by your own device, and you can turn them off in your device settings.
How we use it
Only to run the program: scheduling sessions, confirming volunteer hours, training and certifying mentors, matching mentors with mentees, and keeping everyone in touch. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- Other volunteers see your name on chat messages and session signups.
- Program administrators see your profile and program activity, and approve new accounts.
- Service providers: the app runs on Google Firebase (sign-in, database and hosting). If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple handles that sign-in. They process data for us under their own privacy terms.
- We may share information if the law requires it or to protect the safety of the children in the program.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, training progress, signups (including any missed-session strikes), suggestions, chat messages and sign-in are permanently deleted. Reports of chat messages are kept by administrators as moderation records, including a copy of the reported message. Mentee records are kept by the program while the child takes part and are deleted by administrators when they're no longer needed.
Deleting your account
In the app, tap your initial in the top corner, then Delete account. If your account is still waiting for approval, use Delete my account on that screen. You'll be asked to sign in once more to confirm. You can also email us and we'll delete it for you.
Children's privacy
The app is for college volunteers and program staff, not children, and we don't knowingly let children under 13 create accounts. A parent or guardian who wants to review or delete their child's mentee record can contact us below.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, and database security rules limit each person to what their role needs. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us if you notice a problem.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and let volunteers know in the app.
